Strategic Direction and Outreach for Industry Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (ICATT)
Apprenticeships & Work-Based Learning:
Apprenticeships are an excellent alternative to the current 4-year college model, but not all apprenticeships are created equal. Virginia Rounds, Director of the Industry Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (ICATT) Apprenticeship Program, will lead the discussion on different apprenticeship models and what educators can look for to help identify the right program for their students.
The ICATT Apprenticeship Program is the largest program in the Midwest fully benchmarked on the German Dual Education System — a time-tested program that combines company-specific knowledge, theory, and hands-on learning to train a globally competitive workforce. Apprentices earn a salary, a debt-free associate degree, and industry specific certifications, all while building their career with local employers.
As the Director of the ICATT Apprenticeship Program, Virginia drives the strategic direction and maintains the operational excellence of the program. Additionally, she develops strategic partnerships and builds relationships with the ICATT Network Companies. Prior to joining the ICATT Apprenticeship Program team, Virginia worked for the German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC) Midwest for 10 years supporting German exporters and worked for a U.S. software company and as an intercultural trainer in Berlin. In addition to her experience, Virginia holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and German.
